今回はDWEのブルーで扱われている《💿【22】Ten Little Candles》の歌詞と該当する《📙BOOK２》の内容を種として、“おうち英語”の学びの芽を育てていきます📝🌱
1 Introduction of the venue
このお歌では、ケーキの上のキャンドルの数、切り分けたケーキの数、それを囲む子どもたちの数、子どもたちが平らげたケーキの数を数えている場面を歌っています🎵
ゆめは、おもちゃのブロックでケーキを作って、それに棒状のブロックを挿しながら、このお歌を歌っていました🎵
公園に行って砂場で遊んだときも、お砂でケーキを作って、木の棒を挿してよく遊びました😸
2 Learn grammar

例文１）There are two candles on the cake.

例文２）There are ten hungry children eating cake.
3 コラム ～数の数え方をイメージ~
このお歌では、日本語には馴染みのない、単数形と複数形の使い方と数の数え方をインプットします。
キーフレーズは以下のとおりです。
・Ten happy faces.
・Nine pieces of cake to eat.
・Eight ice cream cones to lick.
・Seven big balloons to pop.
・Six birthday hats to wear.
・Five candles on the cake.
・Four ribbons on the gifts.
・Three gifts to open.
・Two roses on the cake.
・One big birthday cake.
ここで押さえたいのは、ケーキはcake「ケーキ」という数えられない名詞（不可算名詞）だということです！
なので、ケーキを数える場合は、「a piece of ～」という表現を使い、cakeの形はcakesとはせずに、cakeのままです（高校入試にも出題されている問題がこんな形で自然とインプットできるんですね！）。
ちなみに、cake（ケーキ）は普通丸くて大きいのを焼くので、a cakeと言うと「（ホールケーキ）丸ごと」という意味になります。
ホールケーキを切り分けていくと、a piece of cake（ケーキ1切れ）、two pieces of cake（ケーキ2切れ）となるわけです。
a cakeは「丸ごと１個」なので、cupcake（カップケーキ）なら、a cupcake（カップケーキ１個）、2 cupcakes（カップケーキ2個）と数えることができます。
このように、英語には、名詞を数えられる名詞（可算名詞）and数えられない名詞（不可算名詞）に分けているんですね。
「可算名詞」とは、「一つ、二つ、三つ……」と数えられる名詞のことです。
一つの時はその名詞の前に冠詞の「a」または「an」が置かれ、ふたつ以上の時はその名詞の末尾に「s」または「es」が付きます。
不定冠詞「a (n)」ではなく定冠詞「the」が来ることもあります。
一方、「不可算名詞」は数えられない名詞です。
「不可算名詞」には単数を表す「a (an)」や複数を表す「s」「es」は付きません。
リンゴもカットされていたら、数えられない名詞になるので、 pieces of appleということですね！

不可算名詞は、数えられないものとして扱いますが、量を表すときは cakeと同じように、a piece of ～, a cup of ～, a slice of ～ みたいな言い方をすることが多いです😊
但し、これらの名詞も絶対に複数形にはならないのかといえば、そうではなくて、例えば、travelも複数形のtravelsを用いる場合は「長期間の旅行」を意味することがあります。
その他の単語も複数形になった場合には少し違った意味になるものもあります！
【興味深い名詞deer】
「deer」 teeth単複同形ですが、それと同時に 不可算名詞的 に扱われることもあります。
不可算名詞的に使われる理由：
動物の名前（特に狩猟や食材の文脈）では、個々の数を意識せずに「種類」や「食用のお肉」として扱うことが多いため、deer は不可算名詞のように扱われる ことがあります。
（群れをなす動物は不可算名詞のように扱われることがあります。）
例：
✅ I saw a deer in the forest.（単数）
✅ I saw three deer in the forest.（複数形も「deer」）
✅ Deer is commonly hunted in this region.（不可算名詞的な用法＝「鹿という動物はこの地域でよく狩られる」）
但し、話者が個々の鹿を明確に数えたいときは、「deer」を単複同形の可算名詞として使います。
🔹 There were many deer in the park.（たくさんの鹿がいた）
that's why,deer は単複同形の可算名詞 でありつつ、文脈によっては不可算名詞のように扱われる こともある、という感じです！
同じような単語として「fish」があります！

『Let’s Have a Birthday Party』でも出てきますが、“will there be?”という「未来＋疑問形」の形として登場しているので、発展バージョンが先に出ている感じです✨️
このThere is～.は、BOOK１の『Mickey Magician』のやり取りの中でも“There’s nothing in your hat.”というフレーズで繰り返し出てきています👀
今回のお歌のフレーズと一緒に、このシーンの“Is there anything in my hat?”の疑問文も一緒にインプットしていけるといいですね。
hatをboxなどに変えると、遊びや日常の中でも使いやすいと思います😸
「〇〇があるよ」、「なにもないよ」、という表現は、日常でも声掛けしやすいと思うので、この曲やBOOK１のフレーズを声掛けに使ってみましょう🗣️
